Mission Control: Spaces are now better organized in Mission Control, which helps you manage and locate apps and open windows. Click one, and it fills the other side of your screen. A collection of open windows gathers on the other side of your screen. Click and hold the green full-screen button, and drag and drop the window on one side of your screen. In El Capitan's full-screen mode, you can display two apps side by side. In Yosemite, you can make an app window fill the screen by clicking the green full-screen button in the top-left corner of its window.

And the latest edition of Apple's desktop operating system - OS X El Capitan version 10.11 - while not as alluring as candy-coated buttons or as dramatic as major surgery - continues to push the OS forward with a collection of helpful improvements, including better windows management, much improved apps, and broader search capabilities. The steady, not revolutionary, progression of OS X over the past few years reflects a maturing OS.

Since the release of Mac OS X 10.0 in 2001, we've seen lickable interfaces, witnessed a high-stakes heart transplant from PowerPC to Intel chips, and received an informal education in big-cat species. I had been told that although I backed everything up, I cannot run that back up because it will be looking at the old operating system. We've lived 14 years with OS X. I have done a spotlight search on the whole machine for various photos (and checked to make sure I am searching the whole machine) as I had them in albums. I have checked the IPhoto library / pictures etc and it is not there. I am not sure which version of Snow Leopard but it did come with installer DVDs, this Mac belonged to my brother prior to me using it, so everything was set up for me as he was the Mac wizard. Leonie, I never ran Yosemite, I went straight to El Capitan.

I have emailed the contact at Apple that I have used previously and I will ask her about a download code for iPhoto 9.6.1, so thank you for your help with that. I think going forward after this, I shall probably use Dropbox. I am very happy to use Photos, that is not the issue here, I just want to be able to retrieve the photos that were previously on the Mac. I have not removed IPhoto, it was their prior to the upgrade. You may need to restore it from your backup, if it should be missing. Is there an iPhoto Library in your Pictures folderol somewhere else on your Mac? By default your iPhoto Library will be in your Pictures folder and Photos for Mac will open it automatically. Which version of MacOS X did your Mac come with?Īnyway, you need to find your iPhoto Library.
#DROPBOX FOR MAC EL CAPITAN UPDATE#
If you bought iPhoto with MacOS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or an earlier version, that came with installer DVDs, it is not an AppStore version and will not appear in the fourth tab "Purchases" and there is no chance to update it now.īut if your Mac came with MacOS X 10.7 Lion or a newer version, that does not have installer DVDs, iPhoto should be showing at the Mac AppStore for you. I have tried to find the iPhoto app in the store but it is not there, it is also not hidden either, I have tried every possibility and read what other people have commented on in the forums. as long as you did not run Yosemite or El Capitan, it was not possible to update to iPhoto 9.6.1. Your Mac will only update iPhoto automatically up to the last version that is compatible with your version of OS X.

My Mac did updates daily, so I would have thought it would have updated IPhoto,
